Mostardi Finishes 2019-20 Campaign In Oracle ITA Singles Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – After spending the entire 2020 spring season ranked in the Oracle ITA National Singles Rankings, Cleveland State men's tennis senior Nico Mostardi finished the year ranked 93rd nationally.

COMPLETE ORACLE ITA NATIONAL RANKINGS

Mostardi finished the shortened 2019-20 campaign with a 14-9 singles record, including an 8-3 mark at the top of the lineup during the spring season. Mostardi currently ranks fourth on the CSU Singles Wins List with 84 career victories, and is one of just seven Vikings all-time to surpass 80 career wins.

Throughout the season, Mostardi picked up a pair of ranked singles wins – a 7-5, 7-5 victory over No. 44 Sven Lah of Baylor and a 7-6(1), 6-4 win over No. 66 Tin Chen of Louisville. His win over Sven Lah marked the highest ranked singles win in program history, while he now has three top-80 wins on his career.

As the only Viking to earn a National Singles Ranking in program history, Mostardi finished the fall season with the highest ranking of his career, coming in at No. 65 in the first published rankings of the season. In the first ranking of the 2019-20 season, Mostardi was one of just 22 mid-major players to appear in the rankings, and one of just 10 to be ranked in the top-75.

During the 2019 fall campaign, Mostardi earned invites to four national tournaments – Oracle ITA Masters, ITA All-American Championship, ITA Midwest Regional & Oracle ITA National Fall Championship – with his trip to the Fall Championship marking a first in program history.

Mostardi's appearance at the Oracle ITA Masters came by virtue of being named the 2019 Horizon League Player of the Year, and marked his second straight trip to the fifth annual tournament. He was selected for the ITA All-American Championship and ITA Midwest Regional tournament fields due to his performance throughout the year leading up to the events, while he was invited as a wildcard qualifier for the prestigious ITA National Fall Championship.

His spot in the Oracle ITA National Singles Rankings marks the second straight year that he has ended the season with a national ranking, as he teamed with Benjamin Slade last season to finish the year ranked No. 90 on the Oracle ITA National Doubles Rankings.
