Men’s Tennis Sweeps Horizon League Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After the first week of the 2020 spring season, the Cleveland State men's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, with senior Nico Mostardi earning Player of the Week honors and Matthew Terry and Kade Mindry picking up Doubles Team of the Week accolades.

This trio helped the Vikings to a 1-1 week, including a 5-2 victory over Toledo in the home opener.

Mostardi entered the spring season ranked #65 in the Oracle ITA National Singles Rankings, and went 1-1 at the top of the lineup over the first two matches.

Mostardi's first win of dual match play came as a 6-4, 6-4 straight set decision against Toledo, which gave him 77 career singles victories. The Cleveland, Ohio native currently ranks seventh on the CSU Singles Wins List, and is just three wins shy of becoming the seventh Viking all-time with 80+ career victories.

The Cleveland State doubles team of Terry and Mindry went 1-0 at the No. 2 spot on the week, picking up a 6-4 victory in the season opener at Kentucky. This marked the first collegiate match of Mindry's career, as he joined the Vikings earlier this month for the spring campaign.

Terry and Mindry also played at No. 2 doubles against Toledo, playing an unfinished match in Cleveland State's 5-2 victory.

This trio will be back in action on Thursday, January 30, when the Vikings continue their spring slate at Penn State.
