LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened the 2020 Spring Season Thursday, dropping a 7-0 contest at Kentucky.

· Thursday's match marked the season opener for the Vikings, marking the fourth straight year that CSU faced a Power Five school in its season opener.

· Kentucky is the first of three opponents for the Vikings during non-league play to have finished last season ranked in the top-75.

· Cleveland State's lone win on the day came during doubles play, as the No. 2 tandem of Matthew Terry and Kade Mindry picked up a 6-4 win.

· Nico Mostardi and Luke Phillips both pushed their singles matches to three sets, Mostardi playing at the top of the lineup and Phillips playing at No. 3 singles.

· Freshman Kade Mindry, who joined the Vikings for the spring season, made his collegiate debut against the Wildcats, playing at No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles.

"Of course we wanted more from today's match, but this was a good starting point for us for the year. We knew heading into this non-league schedule that it would be challenging for us, including today's match against a very good Kentucky team. We had a lot of competitive matches in doubles and singles today, and although we weren't able to come out on the winning side, we were able to see where we are at on the first day of play, and we can only get better from here. Having so many competitive matches today is a good sign of what's to come from this group this year, and we are looking forward to opening our home slate against Toledo and Tiffin on Saturday." – head coach Brian Etzkin
