Terry Ends ITA Regional Run In Round Of 16

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Cleveland State men's tennis sophomore Matthew Terry came up short in his round of 16 match at the ITA Midwest Regional Sunday, dropping a 6-2, 6-2 contest against Notre Dame's Guillermo Cabrera.

Terry earned a spot in the round of 16 in the Main Singles Draw after winning a pair of matches Saturday against opponents from Toledo and Northwestern. Terry finished with a 2-1 record on the weekend, and stands at 10-4 this season to lead the Vikings.

"Matt had a good run at the regional tournament for the second straight year, as he was able to pick up some good wins yesterday, but just couldn't sink his teeth into his match today despite a focused effort," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Overall we had a good regional tournament as a team, picking up some quality wins, and we will take all of this momentum into our very own Viking Invitational to close out the fall season in a couple weeks."

For the weekend, Cleveland State finished with an overall record of 8-6 in singles play, and had four players in the Main Singles Draw – the most in program history.

The Vikings will close out the fall season at the third annual Viking Invitational over the first weekend of November (2-4).
