Men’s Tennis Brings Home Two Titles From Purdue Fall Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team wrapped up action at the Purdue Fall Invitational Sunday, bringing home a pair of titles from Clark Bilinovich in singles play and Matthew Terry and Raul Teichmann in doubles action.

"The Vikings had a great last day at the Purdue Invite, bringing home two titles from a tournament that had some great competition," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Clark started the day off for us with his championship singles match, and he was in control the entire time, playing from in front and really overpowering his opponent. I liked the way that Clark competed today, he was focused throughout the entire match and didn't let much bother him. He was able to stay aggressive and offensive throughout the match, which really played to his strengths on the court. This weekend was a great step forward for him early on in his Viking career, and I'm looking forward to seeing how he continues to develop throughout the fall season."

Bilinovich picked up his singles title in the E Draw, finishing the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record. In Sunday's championship match, Bilinovich cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Leon Kah of Purdue Northwest, improving to 5-1 on the season.

Terry and Teichmann picked up their doubles title in the C Flight, earning a pair of wins on the final day to capture the title. In the semifinals, the duo earned a 6-0 victory over Chicago State and then followed that up with a 6-3 victory over a Ball State tandem in the championship match.

"We also had some great performances in doubles today, with Matt and Raul doing a great job in their semifinal and championship matches. Their return games were so strong this entire weekend, that they really never gave their opponent a break when they were on serve. Matt and Raul both played aggressive doubles, not taking their foot off of the gas pedal, and really complimented each other well on the court. The pair was able to cap off a great weekend for us, and I'm looking forward to seeing what this group can do next," Etzkin said.

Next up for the Vikings will be the ITA Midwest Regional, which will begin on Wednesday, October 17 in South Bend, Ind.
