WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened play at the Purdue Fall Invitational Friday, playing two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.

 "Overall this was a good day on the courts for the Vikings, we picked up a lot of quality wins and had good energy throughout the day," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I thought everyone was very competitive in doubles and singles action, and they all worked on keeping their mental focus on point. Matt and Raul definitely led the way for us on day one picking up a pair of doubles wins along with wins in both of their singles matches, and we will try to build on that for tomorrow and see what else we can do."

The Vikings were able to collect four singles wins on the first day of action, including a 2-0 mark in the E Singles Flight. In the E Draw, Clark Bilinovich posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wright State's Donovan Cellupica-Towers, while William Malm earned a 7-6(8), 6-0 victory over Franklin Brozovich of Valparaiso.

Matthew Terry was able to pick up his team-leading seventh singles win of the fall season Friday, earning a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(9) victory over Ball State's Guzina Marko in the A Singles Flight.

The final singles win for the Vikings came from Raul Teichmann, as he posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the D Singles Flight against Alfonso Martinez of Olivet.

Cleveland State's doubles team of Terry and Teichmann went 2-0 in the C Doubles Flight Friday, advancing to the semifinals with a 6-1 victory over Butler and a 6-2 win over Niagara.

The Vikings also got doubles wins from Benjamin Slade and Bilinovich in the A Flight (6-3 vs. Green Bay), and Malm/Jack Santilli in the C Consolation Draw (6-1 vs. Illinois State).

Action at the Purdue Fall Invitational will continue tomorrow (Saturday, October 6), beginning at 8:00 a.m.
