VanMeter Picks Up Horizon League Player Of The Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second time over the last three weeks a Cleveland State men's tennis player has been honored by the Horizon League, as senior Joe VanMeter has been named the Player of the Week. This is the second weekly honor for VanMeter this season, and the third of his career.

Last week, VanMeter became the seventh Viking all-time to record 70 career singles victories after picking up a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Army. VanMeter, who was playing at the top of the singles lineup for the first time this season, currently ranks seventh on the CSU Singles Wins List with his 70 singles victories.

VanMeter is one of five Vikings to have double-digit singles wins on the year, and has a team-best 9-6 record this spring. He is just one win shy of moving into a tie for sixth place on the CSU Singles Wins List, and two wins shy of surpassing Rob West (2005-09) who finished his career with 71 victories.

The Indianapolis, Indiana native has also been part of Cleveland State's top doubles team this spring, partnering with Andre Mick to own a 7-5 record at No. 1 doubles. The duo owns a 10-6 record overall this season, the only Viking tandem to notch double-digit wins.

Cleveland State also picked up weekly honors on the women's side (Princess Gbadamosi), marking the second time this season that the Vikings have swept Horizon League Player of the Week accolades. (Mathilde Orange & Joe VanMeter on February 16)
