VanMeter’s ITA Midwest Regional Run Ends In Round Of 32

UPDATED MAIN SINGLES DRAW

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team concluded its fall season Saturday, as Joe VanMeter bowed out of the ITA Midwest Regional main singles draw.

"Joe played some great tennis today against the No. 4 player in the tournament," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Joe definitely did the work and played the right way, and deserved to win but it just didn't happen today. A couple of points here and there that could have gone either way, and it would have been a different outcome. He was playing some of his best tennis at this tournament, and we will take that as a positive and move forward from here."

VanMeter, who won his opening round main singles draw match yesterday, fell to fourth-seeded Aron Hiltzik of Illinois, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 32. VanMeter was playing in the main singles draw for the second time in his career, and picked up an opening round victory for the first time yesterday.

VanMeter finishes the fall season with 61 career singles wins – a mark that ranks him eighth on the CSU wins list.

With the conclusion of the fall season, the Vikings will return to action after the New Year, opening up the spring season against Duquesne on Saturday, January 23.
