Shabib Named ITA Scholar-Athlete

SKILLMAN, N.J. – Cleveland State men's tennis standout Ali Shabib picked up another accolade Thursday afternoon (July 16), as he was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

During his senior campaign, Shabib posted a 3.830 grade point average for the 2014-15 academic year, including a perfect 4.0 during the Spring semester. Shabib was named to the Cleveland State Dean's List during both the Fall and Spring semesters, and picked up Athletic Academic honors. He graduated with a degree in health sciences/pre-med last May, and will be continuing his education in Denmark this fall.

During the 2014-15 season, Shabib posted an 18-17 singles record playing throughout the top half of the lineup, including a team-best 5-1 record against Horizon League opponents. Shabib also tallied a team-high 23-10 doubles record on the year, including a 14-5 record with classmate Nolan Marks.

Shabib finished his Cleveland State career ranked seventh all-time on the CSU singles wins list with 62 career victories, while he ranked third on the CSU individual doubles wins list with 86.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letterwinner, 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
