Bellutti Named Horizon League Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State men's tennis senior Manuel Bellutti has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week after leading the Vikings to a pair of victories last weekend. The honor is the first of Bellutti's career, and the second for the Vikings this spring.

Cleveland State picked up back-to-back 5-2 victories against Wright State and IPFW last weekend, improving to 8-5 overall this spring and 1-0 in Horizon League play.

Bellutti was the lone Viking to go 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action last weekend, improving his overall singles record to a team-best 16-6 this season. Bellutti also owns a 9-3 singles mark this spring, including a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 3 spot.

Against Wright State, Bellutti tallied a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 come-from-behind win, while he notched a three-set (6-0, 3-6, 6-4) victory against IPFW the next day – with both wins coming at No. 3 singles.

In doubles play, Bellutti teamed up with Mirko Radosevic at the No. 2 spot, picking up a 6-4 win against Wright State and a 6-3 victory at IPFW.

Bellutti, who is playing in just his second season with the Vikings, is closing in on 50 career wins, entering the week with 41 singles victories. With just nine more singles wins Bellutti would become the 12th Viking all-time to reach the 50-win mark.

Bellutti and the Vikings will return to action this weekend, hosting Detroit on Friday (March 27) and Case Western and Oberlin on Sunday (March 29). Friday's contest against Detroit will take place at Chagrin Valley Athletic Club, while Sunday's matches will be played at Paramount Tennis Club.
