Men’s Tennis Picks Up 5-2 Victory At BYU Hawaii

LAIE, Hawaii – The Cleveland State men's tennis team closed out its Spring Break Trip with a win Thursday afternoon, notching a 5-2 victory against BYU Hawaii.

"We got off to a good start today by picking up a good doubles point, and I am happy to see us finally taking steps forward in our doubles play," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "In singles we had some close matches at the top of the lineup, but weren't able to close them out despite some good battles from both Jorg and Joe. We won this match with our depth today, and I was excited to see everyone respond well to playing with a new singles lineup."

Cleveland State picked up the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, getting out the 1-0 lead. Ali Shabib and Nolan Marks record a 7-5 victory at the top of the doubles lineup, while Jorg van der Vloet and Joe VanMeter tallied a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot.

The Vikings were then able to sweep the singles matches at the No.3 through No. 6 spots, earning the 5-2 victory.

Manuel Bellutti picked up a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, while Shabib posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 spot. Mirko Radosevic notched a 6-3, 7-6 (3) at the No. 5 spot, while Colton Buffington clinched the match for the Vikings with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

The Vikings will return to action on Saturday, March 21 when they begin Horizon League play at Wright State.
