Men’s Tennis Set For Spring Break Trip To Hawaii

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team (5-3) will embark on its annual Spring Break Trip this weekend, traveling to Hawaii for three matches. Over the course of five days, the Vikings will face Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific, and BYU Hawaii.

Jorg van der Vloet Remains Perfect In Singles Play
Senior Jorg van der Vloet held onto his perfect singles record last weekend, earning a 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 victory against Niagara. van der Vloet, who has spent time playing at No. 2 and No. 3 singles this season, is the only Horizon League player who has played in at least five dual matches to own a perfect singles record so far this season.

In The Record Book
Seniors Ali Shabib and Jorg van der Vloet are both in the top-10 on the CSU career singles wins list – as both Vikings are tied for eighth with 53 singles wins. Shabib and van der Vloet have split time between No. 2 and No. 3 singles this spring, van der Vloet owning an 8-0 record and Shabib standing at 5-3.

VanMeter Closing In On Record Book
Junior Joe VanMeter is just shy of cracking the top-10 singles wins list, entering the weekend ranked 11th with 50 career singles victories. VanMeter, who became the 11th Viking all-time to notch 50 career wins last time out, owns a 7-1 record playing at the top spot of the singles lineup this season.

Scouting the Rainbow Warriors
Hawaii is currently 3-4 on the season, and will host UMKC prior to Sunday's match against the Vikings. Nils Schuhmann and Kai Wehnelt have split time at the top of the singles lineup for Hawaii, while the Rainbow Warriors have used two different doubles lineups at the top spot – Carter Lam/Nils Schuhmann and Marcel Chan/Kai Wehnelt.

Scouting the Sharks
Hawaii Pacific (NCAA Division II) owns a perfect 4-0 record this spring, and will also face UMKC prior to its meeting against Cleveland State. The Sharks were ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason ITA Team Rankings. Hawaii Pacific has a veteran heavy team, including two seniors, four juniors, and three sophomores.

Scouting the Seasiders
BYU Hawaii (NCAA Division II) is currently 7-3 this season, and will face Hawaii Hilo twice before taking on the Vikings. The Seasiders were ranked No. 18 nationally in the preseason ITA Team Rankings.
