For the fifth time in as many tries this season, Cleveland State diver Thatcher Carr has been named the Horizon League Men's Diver of the Week. The league made the announcement on Wednesday (Dec. 7).

Carr continued his winning ways at the Miami Invitational (Dec. 1-3), claiming crowns on both the one and three meter boards. He out-scored his nearest competitor by over 80 points on one meter with a first-place score of 621.35 and won the three-meter by nearly 40 points with a 693.85.

"He was diving well at the tournament," diving coach Rich Karban said. "We added a new dive in the three meter that is one of the hardest to do in diving, and he rose to the occasion. He did a nice job of being consistent, and, in that type of meet, you have to be consistent to win."

Carr has been the league's diver of the week in each week that he has competed this season. He has been the league's top diver since his first competition last January, claiming wins in 27 of 28 events in which he has competed. In less than two semesters, he has been named the league's diver of the week five times, male swim athlete of the week honors twice and men's diver of the meet at last season's Horizon League Championship.

His performance under the new six-optional format at Miami has already set a precedent that will be hard to eclipse. This year's league championship, which will be held at Busbey Natatorium on Feb. 22-25, will follow the same format for diving.

The Miami Invitational marked the conclusion of competition for the Vikings in 2005. The season will resume on Jan. 7 when Cleveland State heads to La Jolla, Calif. for its winter training trip.
