Carr Heads To NCAA Zone Meet This Weekend

March 10, 2005

CLEVELAND - Senior diver Thatcher Carr continues his trek towards the NCAA Championships as he competes in the NCAA Zone C meet to be held at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center from March 11-13 in West Lafayette, Ind.

Carr was the Horizon League's top diver in his first season with CSU despite only competing in the spring semester, setting Cleveland State records in both the one- and three-meter spring boards.

In his very first meet, he dived to a then-school record in the one meter boards before proceeding to successively break the record three more times, finishing with a 410.93 while shattering the previous mark of 322.20 set by Justin Sochor in 1995.

The Diver of the Meet in the Horizon League Championships, Carr set the school mark in the three meter boards on the final day with a 614.45 in 11 dives, besting Ayman Labib's 1992-mark of 567.40 by nearly 50 points. Carr twice earned Horizon League Swim Athlete of the Week honors (1/25 and 2/8) while holding the league top mark in the one meter boards by over 50 points and three meter boards by over 100.

The Zone C meet will feature the top divers from the midwest region, with one-meter diving being held on Friday (March 11) and three-meter on Saturday (March 12). The top three qualifiers in each event will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships on March 24-26 in Minneapolis, Minn.
