Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Earn Three #HLSD All-Academic Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State men's swimming & diving athletes, Jackson Nester, Tyler Schultze, and Paddy Johnston were named to the 2023-24 Valeo All-Academic Team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

Nester, received All-Academic honors for the second straight year. The Blacksburg, Virginia, native holds a 3.96 GPA in mechanical engineering technology. In the classroom, he has been named to the Dean's List three times and the President's List twice.

The junior won his third straight 400-yard IM Championship after putting up his third straight school record time in prelims and then the second-fastest time in finals. He was also the runner-up in the 200-yard IM with the second-fastest time and 200-yard backstroke with the fifth-quickest time. Also, he helped the 800-yard freestyle relay to a school record time and runner-up finish.

Schultze, garnered All-Academic honors for the first time in his career. The sophomore has a 3.90 GPA in mechanical engineering. The Coon Rapids, Minnesota, native has been named to the Dean's List twice and the President's List once.

Schultze placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a new school record time, topping the previous mark that he set during Magnus Cup. He was also part of the third-place 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams.

Johnston, earned All-Academic recognition for the first time. The sophomore has a 3.40 GPA in business studies. The Belfast, Ireland, native has been named to the Dean's List twice and the President's List once.

The junior was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke after being out-touched by just .09 seconds. He placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with the third-fastest time and came in fourth during the 100-yard freestyle with the eighth-fastest time. In relays, he helped the 800-yard freestyle team to a school record time and runner-up finish and was also part of the third-place 200-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle, and 400-yard medley teams.
