Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Splits Road Dual, Wolf Secures NCAA Zone Cut

GAMBIER, Ohio – Cleveland State split their double dual on Friday afternoon, defeating Oberlin, 220-76, but falling to Kenyon, 154-133.

"We just wrapped up our fourth competition in six days," said head coach Hannah Burandt. "I couldn't be prouder of the team's ability to be competitive, show grit, and still execute well. This wraps up our winter "staycation" and we can now shift our focus to fine-tuning for our senior day and Horizon League Championships."

Cleveland State started the day with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as Jackson Nester, Blake Fry, Thomas Lundin, and Daniel Lyngaas finished in 1:35.75.

Nester won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.53 and Connor Green placed third with a 1:42.52.

Tyler Schultze won the 100-yard breaststroke after touching in 57.43.

James Wolf won 1m diving with an NCAA Zone-Cut of 314.60. He went on to win 3m diving with a score of 283.65.

Paddy Johnston placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (49.27) and 100-yard freestyle (45.06).

In the 200-yard butterfly, Lundin (1:53.96) came in second and Reno James (1:58.00) in third.

Josh Merchbaker claimed the second spot in the 50-yard freestyle, sprinting to a time of 21.38.

Nester won his second event of the day in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.15. Jake Taulbee was the runner-up with a time of 1:57.11.

The 200-yard breaststroke saw Schultze (2:04.73) come in second and Aidan Florio (2:08.08) in third.

Green recorded a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle after stopping the clock in 4:44.62.

Lundin grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly after finishing in 50.57.

Nester triumphed for a third time, winning the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:51.23. Schultze came in third with a 1:57.30.

Cleveland State ended the day with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle as Johnston, Merchbaker, Kenny Thomas, and Green finished in 1:23.09

The Vikings will have their final tune-up before the Horizon League Championships on Friday, Jan. 26 against Oakland for senior day at 4 p.m.
