Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to Miami (OH) in Season Opener

OXFORD, Ohio – Cleveland State opened the 2023-24 season with a 183-115 loss to Miami (OH) on Saturday afternoon. The Green and White won three events on the afternoon.

"We have so much to be proud of today, individually and collectively," said head coach Hannah Burandt. "We had moments that really stood out including the men sweeping the 1,000, and Josh winning the 50. I'm really pleased with how our upperclassmen led the team today, athletically, and culturally, and how our underclassmen stepped up with assertiveness and competitiveness. This season is going to be fun and exciting for the Vikes."

The Vikings claimed the top four spots in the 1000-yard freestyle with Jackson Nester (9:46.00), Tanner Beck (9:56.56), Vittorio Cappabianca (10:00.37), and Jake Taulbee (10:04.44).

In the 100-yard backstroke, Paddy Johnston won with a time of 49.70. Josh Merchbaker sprinted to a victory in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 21.20.

Nester was the runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.52) and 200-yard IM (1:55.07).

In the 200-yard freestyle, Connor Green took the second spot, finishing in 1:42.91, and Cappabianca took second during the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:50.44.
