INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Vikings placed third at the four-day 2023 Horizon League Championships.

"This is the best TEAM I have had the honor to coach," said head coach Hannah Burandt. "We are a small and mighty squad that showed up with full heart and grit. We had moments where we shined and when we didn't our support outshined everything else. I cannot thank our seniors enough: they have left this program better than where we found it when they were freshmen. Our future success is because of them. When we had the team crying because it was a seniors last race, that's something beautiful and a strength that is unique to us."

The final night began with the 1650-yard freestyle as Jake Taulbee (15:39.22) placed fourth with the tenth fastest time in program history and Spencer Tussing (15:51.41) took tenth. Both times were CSCAA B-cut times.

Jackson Nester placed third in the 200-yard backstroke after clocking the seventh-fastest time in program history with an NCAA B-cut of 1:44.58. In addition, that time is a CSCAA A-cut.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Nathen Eberhardt came in eighth with a time of 45.38 and Connor Green took 15th. Eberhardt's time was a CSCAA B-cut.

Cleveland State took fifth and sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with Tyler Schultze (1:58.71) putting up the fifth fastest time in program history and Griffin Manning (2:00.17). Both times are CSCAA B-cuts.

Paddy Johnston finished as the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly after clocking the seventh-fastest time in program history, 1:46.62. Thomas Lundin (1:52.08) and Reno James (1:52.25) finished 13th and 14th.

The Vikings capped off the championship with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle as Johnston, Eberhardt, Green, and Spencer Tussing finished with the fourth-fastest time in program history, 2:58.31.
