Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Claim Two HL Championships on Night Three

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State enters the final day of the Horizon League Championships in second place with 479 points. Oakland remains on top of the standings with 479 points. The third night saw the Vikings claim two Horizon League Championships, raising their total to three.

Bob Fick opened the evening with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 47.55. Thomas Lundin placed eighth in the event with a time of 49.37. Spencer Jyawook of IUPUI won the championship, finishing in 46.34.

Cleveland State then swept the podium in the 400-yard IM. Jackson Nester won the championship with a program-best time and B-standard time of 3:49.42. Timothy Kubacki (3:51.79) was the runner-up with a B-standard, and Jake Taulbee (3:54.83) was third.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Spencer Tussing (1:38.64) came in sixth and Connor Green (1:39.97) placed seventh.

Griffin Manning (53.60) took the third spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a B-standard, Blake Fry (55.26) finished in seventh, and Jack Krusinski (55.46) claimed eighth.

Josh Merchbaker swam a 49.59 to win the B-finals of the 100-yard backstroke. Then in the A-finals, Paddy Johnston (47.13) came in second with a B-standard, Dominik Niedzialek (48.13) in third, and Kenny Thomas (48.77) in fourth.

Oakland thought they had won the 400-yard medley relay to close out the night, but the Golden Grizzlies were disqualified, giving the Vikings the championship. The team of Dominik Niedzialek, Griffin Manning, Bob Fick, Paddy Johnston swam a 3:12.64.

Head Coach Hannah Burandt said, "We don't train for night one, we don't train for the first full day, we don't even train for today. We train for tomorrow's prelims. Today was an amazing day and tomorrow is ice cream."

Day Four Schedule
The final day of the Horizon League Championship will feature the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 3m diving, and 400 medley relay.
