Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Continues to Lead Magnus Cup After Day Two

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings remained atop the standings at the Magnus Cup after day two with 1220 points. Cleveland State won four individual swimming events, the lone diving event, and both relays. In addition, the Green and White set 14 personal-best times.

Timothy Kubacki picked up his second NCAA B-Standard of the weekend, swimming a 3:50.24 in the 400-yard IM prelims.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • For the second consecutive night, Cleveland State took the top three spots in diving. Faulisi completed the diving sweep by winning 3-meter with a score of 281.10. Trevor Mahoney (267.20) was second and CJ Levand (219.05) took third.
  • The 200-yard medley relay team of Thomas, Manning, Fick, and Johnston kicked off the evening with a first-place finish, clocking a 1:28.99. The Green and White also took the third and fifth spots.
  • Cleveland State claimed four spots in the top ten of the 400-yard IM led by Nester's winning performance of 3:52.22 and Jake Taulbee's (3:55.59) second-place finish.
  • For the second straight race, the Green and White went first-and-second with Fick (47.86) and Johnston (48.01) in the 100-yard butterfly. The Vikings were also fourth through sixth and ninth in the event.
  • In the 200-yard freestyle, Cleveland State obtained five of the top ten spots in the event. Kubacki led the way with a runner-up finish, touching in 1:37.80.
  • Manning won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.58 and Krusinski was the runner-up with a 54.89. Blake Fry came in fifth with a time of 55.78.
  • The Vikings went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke with Johnston (48.21), Niedzialek (49.15), and Thomas (49.73).
  • Cleveland State ended the night with a meet record in the 800-yard freestyle relay with the team of Niedzialek, Kubacki, Tussing, and Eberhardt with a time of 6:35.82. The Vikings also had the runner-up team in the race.
