Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving in First After Day One of Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings concluded day one of the Magnus Cup in first place with 554 points. On the evening, Cleveland State won all four individual swimming events, the lone diving event, and both relays. In addition, the Vikings set nine personal-best times.

Timothy Kubacki became the first Viking this season to post an NCAA Standard Time with a B-time in the 200-yard IM.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Vikings went 1-2-3 in 1-meter diving with Faulisi (296.50), Trevor Mahoney (252.80), and CJ Levand (230.20).
  • Cleveland State opened the finals with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Thomas, Lenart, Eberhardt, and Johnston, finishing in 1:21.26. The Green and White also placed fourth and fifth in the event.
  • Griffin Manning kicked off the individual swims by winning the 50-yard breaststroke in a meet record time of 24.86. Jack Krusinski was the runner-up with a time of 25.18.
  • The Green and White owned the 500-yard freestyle as they went one-through-six. The finishing order was Niedzialek (4:26.70), Spencer Tussing (4:27.15), Jackson Nester (4:28.87), Jake Taulbee (4:32.71), Quinn DeGraaf (4:34.34), and Connor Green (4:35.01).
  • In the 200-yard IM, the Vikings claimed the first-through-fourth spots led by Kubacki's meet record and NCAA B Standard time of 1:46.56. James took second (1:49.34), Krusinski came in third (1:50.72), and Fick in fourth (1:51.02).
  • Johnston came in first during the 50-yard freestyle, touching in 20.20. Thomas placed third with a time of 20.81.
  • Cleveland State capped off the evening with a first and second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Johnston, Manning, Fick, and Eberhardt posted a time of 3:13.22.
