Cleveland State Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats Youngstown State in Home Opener

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State men's swimming & diving defeated Youngstown State, 210-88 in their home-opening dual on Friday afternoon at the Busbey Natatorium. The victory is the first of the season for the Vikings.

Cleveland State won both relays and diving events on the afternoon. In addition, the Green and White won nine individual races, highlighted by a three-win night by Timothy Kubacki.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cleveland State started the home dual meet with a first-and-second place finish in 3-meter diving. Mahoney placed first (287.55) and Faulisi was second (244.73).
  • In the 1-meter diving event, the previous two Viking divers flipped positions with Faulisi winning with a score of 263.25. Mahoney was second, posting a 249.38.
  • The 200-yard medley relay team of Johnston, Krusinski, Fick, and Thomas started the swimming portion off with a victory, finishing in 1:30.44.
  • The Vikings dominated the 200-yard freestyle, finishing 1-2-3-4, with Kubacki (1:41.29), Spencer Tussing (1:42.10), Connor Green (1:44.00), and Quinn DeGraaf (1:44.82).
  • Cleveland State went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke with Niedzialek (50.14), Thomas (50.99), and Josh Merchbaker (52.23).
  • The Vikings went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard backstroke with Kubacki (1:48.93), Niedzialek (1:50.88), and Taulbee (1:53.68).
  • Cleveland State claimed the top three spots in the 200-yard breaststroke with Krusinski (2:04.03), Manning (2:10.45), and Fry (2:11.01).
  • The Green and White claimed the second through fifth spots in the 200-yard butterfly led by Fick's second-place finish (1:49.08).
  • Krusinski (56.22) and Griffin Manning (57.63) went first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
  • Nester won the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:33.94 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:40.57, while Eberhardt won the 100-yard freestyle in 46.62.
  • In the final individual race of the dual, Cleveland State went one-through-four in the 200-yard IM with Kubacki (1:53.74), James (1:54.34), Fick (1:54.98), and Cole (1:58.95).
  • Krusinski, Thomas, Merchbaker, and Johnston capped off the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:23.55.
