Kubacki Posts Top-10 Finish at NIC

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams continued postseason action Friday in a pair of events.

A half dozen Viking swimmers competed as CSU hosted the second day of the National Invitational Championship inside the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium while a duo of divers competed at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at Purdue's Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

Sophomore Timothy Kubacki posted a top-10 individual finish at the NIC Friday. He placed 10th in the 400 IM in 3:58.55 and scored in all three individual events he entered in the meet.

Sophomore Dominik Niedzialek scored in an individual event for the second straight night. He placed 13th in the 100 backstroke in 48.95 seconds.

CSU also scored in the men's 200 medley relay Friday. Kubacki, junior Jack MacDonald and freshmen Bob Lenart and Mason Romstadt finished the relay in 1:32.60.

Lenart finished the 100 butterfly prelims in 50.56 seconds Friday morning. Sophomore Alana Cartwright, the lone Viking female in the event, finished the 100 breaststroke prelims in 1:05.29.

The CSU men are in 19th place in the NIC after two days with 68 points.

Sophomore Matt Akers and senior Curtis Roden closed their seasons at the NCAA Zones meet Friday afternoon in the 3-meter event.

Akers finished 28th in the event with 283.90 points while Roden was 34th with 238.40 points. Akers earned 54 points for his back 2.5 somersault pike while Roden garnered 52.50 for his forward 1.5 somersault 3 twist free.

Cleveland State will close its 2018-19 season Saturday as it hosts the final day of the NIC. Cartwright, MacDonald and Romstadt will contest individual events while the CSU men will also compete in the 400 freestyle relay.
