CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving programs each led the way in selections to the Horizon League's All-Academic Teams announced by the League Friday afternoon.

The CSU men had six of the 18 honorees while the Viking women had six of the 19 that were recognized, with both figures leading the league. It is the second straight year that both programs have led the league in this category.

Sophomore Timothy Kubacki, senior Sean Mulvin, sophomore Dominik Niedzialek and seniors Curtis Roden, Jared Stergar and Jason van der Touw were the Viking men to earn the honor.

Senior Michaela Bargardi, sophomore Erica Henrichsen, sophomore Lexie Kostelnik and seniors Molly McNamara, Cassandra Oltman and Claudia Zido earned the award for the CSU women.

Each Viking male student-athlete recognized has a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.55 while each female Viking honored has a cumulative GPA of at least 3.80.

Bargardi and Henrichsen lead the group with 4.00 cumulative marks while McNamara is not far behind with a 3.95 average.

All 12 Vikings that were honored competed in the Horizon League Championships last month.

Nine of the 10 swimmers honored scored in all three of their individual events and had at least one top-10 finish while both divers—Roden and Henrichsen—placed among the top eight in both diving events. Eight of the 12 Vikings honored had at least one top-four individual finish.

Two Vikings recognized won Horizon League titles, three of the Vikings broke school records this season while four of the Vikings surpassed NCAA qualifying standards.

McNamara was named the league's Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year and Women's Swimmer of the Meet at the HL Championships. She became the first Viking to win the former award more than once as she claimed three Horizon League titles.

Stergar won the 100 breaststroke title at the Horizon League Championships and has the fastest times in the league this season in both breaststroke events. He surpassed the NCAA 'B' standard in the 100.

Oltman broke school records in both backstroke events at the league meet and garnered a pair of top-five finishes. Kostelnik broke the school record in the 1650 freestyle this season and finished third in the event at the league meet.

Niedzialek and Roden both surpassed NCAA qualifying standards during the season as well.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with Academic All-League honors in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
