INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed against host IUPUI along with UIC in a tri-dual for the second straight day Saturday inside Indiana University Natatorium.

The CSU men won both matchups in close fashion, taking down the host Jaguars, 126-116, and edging past UIC, 123-117. The CSU women fell to the hosts, 148-87, and dropped a tight matchup against the Flames, 123-116.

Six different Viking men won individual events Saturday.

Sophomore Dominik Niedzialek won the 1650 freestyle in a new personal best of 15:51.04, over five seconds ahead of the runner-up. In doing so, he became the seventh-fastest performer in program history in the mile.

Niedzialek was also CSU's top finisher in the 500 free, finishing second in 4:41.40.

Freshman Jack Krusinski won the 200 breaststroke in 2:06.61, touching the wall more than 1.5 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He also took fourth in the 200 IM, finishing in 1:57.37.

Sophomore Timothy Kubacki won the 200 backstroke in 1:50.51. In the 200 freestyle, Kubacki took fourth (1:43.54), one spot behind senior Jason van der Touw (1:43.35).

Kubacki also led off CSU's second-place 400-medley relay team and was followed by juniors Tyler Stevenson and Arslanian and van der Touw. The quartet finished in 3:27.29.

Junior Matthew Martin won the lone individual event he contested Saturday, finishing first in the 200 fly in 1:52.92.

Junior Dominic Poletta won the 50 freestyle in 21.18 seconds. He also was one of three Vikings in the top five in the 100 free. Junior Erwan Mahoudo (47.46), Poletta (47.50) and senior Sean Mulvin (47.52) took third through fifth, respectively.

Poletta led off CSU's top 200 freestyle relay and was followed by Arslanian, sophomore Ryan Sedlak and junior Jack MacDonald. The group finished second in 1:24.97.

After winning the 3-meter event Friday, sophomore Matt Akers won 1-meter diving Saturday with 293.85 points. He took second in the 3-meter event Saturday with 310.00 points, one spot ahead of senior Curtis Roden (276.20 points).

Senior Molly McNamara won both individual events she contested Saturday and also swam on a winning relay.

She won the 200 IM (2:08.57) and 200 butterfly (2:04.36) one day after she won the 400 IM and 100 fly.

In the 200 IM, four Vikings placed among the top five. Sophomores Alana Cartwright (2:12.10) and Dana Bender (2:13.55) were third and fourth while freshman Agnes Bahr took fifth (2:13.82).

Cartwright and McNamara swam the two middle legs of CSU's winning 400 medley relay that won in 3:52.39. Freshman Riley Drummond led off while sophomore Irena Weclawiak swam the anchor leg.

Cartwright won the 200 breaststroke in her other individual event, taking first in 2:25.46. Sophomore Libby Smith was third in 2:26.05.

Weclawiak was CSU's top finisher in both the 100 and 200 freestyle. She was the runner-up in the 200 in 1:56.44 while teammate Gabriella Marinelli was fourth in 1:56.74. Weclawiak took sixth in the 100 (53.91).

Bahr and junior Chuchu Yang both added individual third-place finishes. Bahr took bronze in the 500 free (5:16.80) while Yang was third in the 200 back (2:08.57). Senior Michaela Bargardi was right behind Yang in fourth (2:08.64).

Senior Claudia Zido and freshman Stephanie Sipple were CSU's top finishers in the 50 free (24.96) and the 1650 free (18:47.82), respectively.

Sophomore Erica Henrichsen was fourth in 3-meter diving (211.30) and took fifth in the 1-meter event (202.25).

The CSU women will be back in action next weekend with a dual at Marshall while the men take the weekend off from competition.
