Akers Opens Action at NCAA Zone Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Matt Akers of the Cleveland State University men's swimming & diving team opened action at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships Thursday afternoon at Ohio State's Ron O'Brien Diving Well inside the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

Akers finished 31st in the 3-meter competition with 278.55 points. Among those he finished ahead of were a pair of Big Ten competitors along with two fellow Horizon League divers.

Akers' highest scoring dive was his second, a back 2.5 somersault pike that earned 57 points.

Akers scored 46.40 points on his final dive, a reverse 1.5 somersault 2.5 twist free, and 46.20 points on his penultimate dive, a back 1.5 somersault 2.5 twist free.

Akers will conclude action at the Zone meet Friday afternoon with the 1-meter competition.
