Adam Campellone Earns First Team All-MCC Honors

Oct. 31, 2000

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State sophomore midfielder Adam Campellone (Seven Hills, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) has been named to the Midwestern Collegiate All-Conference First Team. The balloting was conducted among the conference's eight head coaches. Campellone is the first Viking to be selected first team All-MCC since forward Paul McIlravey was honored in 1997.

Despite missing the first two matches of the year, Campellone finished the regular season with three goals and a team-leading six assists, for a total of 12 points -- good for second on the team. He had a four-game point-scoring streak earlier this year and notched a pair of goals in 3-1 win over Canisius on Sept. 16. In addition, he tallied a career-best five points (1G, 3A) in 7-3 win over Detroit on Sept. 27.

"Adam's selection is even more satisfying given that the team's results have not been what we'd hoped -- it is a testament to his character," said CSU head coach Pete Curtis. "It also shows that the league's other coaches are not afraid to recognize a top quality player, despite a team's overall record."

Cleveland State (3-12-1, 1-6-0 MCC) faces regular season champion Illinois-Chicago (13-3-2, 5-1-1 MCC) today in the MCC Quarterfinals at 2:00 p.m. EST in Chicago.
