CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State men's soccer team lost its fourth-straight game on Thursday night, falling to Marshall, 2-0. The Viking offense failed to produce a goal for the second straight game, and the third time this season.
"We can't let teams get up early on us and sit back and defend," head coach Pete Curtis said. "If we can hold defensively, we always have a chance to win."
Marshall (3-9) scored just 93 seconds into the match, when Kirk Gibson took a pass from Firas Al-Samarraie and put a shot past CSU goalkeeper Amir Kettani. Marshall tallied another goal in the 22nd minute mark when Michael McDonald played a ball into space that Jeremy Ashe pounded into the back of the net.
The Vikings (6-7) had a solid flurry of shots in the second half, including a well-struck ball by David Carmichael that was saved by Marshall goalkeeper Chris McKinney. Stephen Ademolu pounced on the loose ball, only to have McKinney make another save on the close-range shot.
"We can't lose sight of what it is that we're aiming for," Curtis said. "We can't forget what got us to this point, and communicate and work together on defense."
