Cleveland State Men's Soccer Ties Purdue Fort Wayne on the Road, 2-2

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Vikings (3-7-4, 2-2-3) earned a hard-fought point on the road after drawing with Purdue Fort Wayne (6-4-3, 3-2-2) 2-2 on Saturday evening. The tie was the second straight for Cleveland State in Horizon League play, giving them nine points with two league games remaining.

Cleveland State had the first chance to get on the board in the seventh minute, but Albert Portas had his penalty kick saved. The Mastodons claimed the 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute as Seth Mahlmeister converted from the spot.

Pablo Kawecki equalized in the 28th minute with an unassisted goal and put the Green and White on top in the 40th minute as he finished off a give-and-go from Josh Davis and Marko Rimac.

The Vikings took the 2-1 advantage into the break, holding an 8-7 edge in shots.

Purdue Fort Wayne knotted the game at two apiece in the 67th minute as Mahlmeiser netted his second of the game off a corner from Soshi Fujioka.

The game ended in a draw despite the home team holding a commanding 16-3 advantage in shots during the second half.

The Green and White were outshot 23-11 in the game, with A. Portas having a team-best four shots with two on frame.

The multi-goal game for Kawecki was his first of the season, giving him eight goals on the year.

Omeed Naeemy made four saves on the evening in goal.

The Vikings play their final non-conference game on Wednesday as they travel to Michigan for a 7 p.m. contest.
