Cleveland State Men's Soccer Toppled by Dayton, 2-1

DAYTON, Ohio – Cleveland State (1-6-2) dropped a 2-1 non-league contest at Dayton (3-6-1) on Tuesday evening.

The Vikings nearly got on the board in the 17th minute when the Flyers goalkeeper misplayed a pass back off his chest, and Marko Rimac's shot was cleared off the line.

Dayton broke through in the 18th minute as Hjalti Sigurdsson finished off a backheel cross from Kenji Mboma to lead 1-0. A minute later, Manny Day ripped a shot off the post that was followed up by Basit Umar, making it 2-0.

Pablo Kawecki trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the 34th minute after converting a penalty kick as Rimac was brought down in the box.

The scoreline remained the same at the break, with the home team holding a 12-5 edge in shots.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second half with the Green and White suffering a 2-1 loss.

The Vikings were outshot 25-12 in the contest. Rimac led the way with five shots including three on frame. Omeed Naeemy made six saves on the night.

Cleveland State returns home on Saturday to battle Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. on Krenzler Field.
