Cleveland State Men's Soccer Draws With Green Bay, 1-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (1-5-2, 0-2-1) picked up their first Horizon League point of the year after drawing with Green Bay (3-2-3, 1-1-1) 1-1 on Saturday night.

Cleveland State outshot the visitors 6-1 in the opening half, but neither team scored before the intermission.

The Phoenix opened the scoring just three minutes into the new second half as Chris Album finished off a cross from So Nishikawa to lead 1-0. The Green and White nearly equalized a minute later as Niklas Nannt ripped a shot off the crossbar and out of play for a corner.

The Vikings netted the tying goal in the 86th minute when Pablo Kawecki finished off a ball over the top from Albert Portas.

Each team finished with eight shots in the contest, but Green Bay held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Kawecki led the way with three shots with two of those on target. Josh Davis was close behind with two shots and one on frame. Omeed Naeemy recorded four saves in goal.

Cleveland State takes to the road for a non-conference game on Tuesday, September 26 against Dayton at 7 p.m.
