Cleveland State Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Bowling Green, 3-2

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Cleveland State (0-1-0) dropped its season opener to Bowling Green (1-0-0) on Thursday evening by a final of 3-2.

The Falcons jumped in front first as Eli Shope found the back of the net off a through ball from Trace Terry in the 15th minute.

The Vikings drew even in the 25th minute after Bojan Kolevski beat the defense and buried his shot to the near post to make it 1-1.

The scoreline would remain the same heading into the locker room with Bowling Green holding a 9-2 edge in shots.

Cleveland State took their first lead of the season, 2-1, after Kyle Folds rifled a shot into the back of the net off a pass from Julian Pellegrini.

Bowling Green retied the game just six minutes later as Andrew Shaffer blasted a shot from distance into the upper left corner. The Falcons reclaimed the lead in the 72nd minute after Shaffer scored his second straight goal, this time curling a shot into the upper right corner off a feed from Trace Terry.

The Green and White had a few chances late in the game to equalize but were unable to, falling 3-2 in their season opener.

The Falcons held a 17-8 edge in shots including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Pablo Kawecki finished with a game-high three shots while Albert Portas had two shots.

Omeed Naeemy started the game in goal but didn't record a save before exiting in the 65th minute. Ryan Poling made two saves in relief.

Cleveland State remains on the road to take on Canisius on Monday, August 28 at 7 p.m.
