Opening Whistle
Cleveland State will look to remain unbeaten on the year as they head to Army tomorrow for a 6 p.m. contest. 

A Win on Friday Would...
...Give Cleveland State their third straight victory to open the year, matching the start in 1982 in which the team finished 10-4-3.

Previous Outing
The Vikings overcame a 1-0 deficit at halftime against UIC to win a thrilling 2-1 non-conference game on the road. Jannis Schmidt accounted for both of the goals in the game, including the tying goal which was No. 1 on ESPN Top 10 plays.

Special Honor
Schmidt earned the first Nike® #HLMSOC Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Green and White win their season opener over Canisius 6-0. The senior scored the game's first goal just 44 seconds into the contest.

About the Black Knights
Army enters their home opener with an 0-1-1 record after dropping their season opener to Michigan State, 2-1, and then tying Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-1. Brandon Bryant and Justin McStay have the only goals while Tomas Hut and Josh Taylor have each played a game in goal.

Series History
This will be the first-ever meeting between Cleveland State and Army.

Horizon League Preseason Poll
Cleveland State was selected to finish second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, as voted upon by league head coaches. Reigning Horizon League Champions, Oakland topped the Horizon League poll with six first-place votes for 93 points, while the Vikings brought in two first-place votes for 90 points. Milwaukee came in third with a first-place vote for 81 points and Wright State got the last first-place vote for 68 points.

A Look Back at Last Season
The Vikings are coming off a 2021 campaign where they won a program-best eight Horizon League games, including a perfect 5-0 #HLMSOC record at Krenzler Field. With their 8-2 league record the Vikings earned the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Tournament and went on to earn a spot in the Championship Game for the first time since 2012.
