Cleveland State Men's Soccer Opens Season With 4-0 Shutout of Canisius

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State opened the 2022 campaign with a 4-0 shutout of Canisius on Thursday evening on Krenzler Field. Tonight, was the first season-opening victory since 2017 against Robert Morris, 3-1.

THE GAME
The Vikings couldn't have asked for a better start as Jannis Schmidt capitalized on a giveaway in the back to make it 1-0 just 44 seconds into the contest. In the 12th minute, Kyle Folds scored his goal in a Viking uniform off a corner from Pablo Kawecki.

Bojan Kolevski extended the advantage to 3-0 in the 20th minute, scoring off a through ball from Albert Portas. Five minutes later, Kawecki found the back of the net off a through ball from Nick McCausland as the lead stood at 4-0.

Cleveland State went into the half leading 4-0 while holding a 15-3 edge in shots.

The second half went scoreless as the Vikings held a 5-2 advantage in shots.

Max Kasputis made his first career appearance in goal, starting the contest and making a save for the victory. Ryan Poling also made his debut in net, playing the final six minutes.  Kolevski finished with seven total shots and three on target.
