Cleveland State Men's Soccer has Three Named to Horizon League All-Academic Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Cleveland State men's soccer players, Thomas M'Barek, Jannis Schmidt, and Bojan Kolevski have been named to the 2021 Horizon League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team, the League announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings were tied with Milwaukee for the most players recognized.

Head Coach Sinisa Ubiparipovic said, "Thomas, Jannis, and Bojan have been exemplary student-athletes for our program since they arrived at Cleveland State. They continue to demonstrate the ability to lead both on the field and in the classroom. We are all very proud of what they have accomplished thus far in their careers."

M'Barek was named to the All-Academic Team for a fourth consecutive year. The eight-time member of the Cleveland State President's List carries a 3.97 GPA in the classroom. The Saint-Aunes, France, native is coming off a year in which he was named the Senior Class Award winner. This season, M'Barek has started all 16 games at his central defense position, scoring his lone goal at home against Northern Kentucky.

Schmidt earned All-Academic Team honors for the first time in his career. The senior boasts a 3.82 GPA and is majoring in mechanical engineering technology. The Gensingen, Germany, native has been named to the Dean's and President's List on three occasions. Schmidt has started all 16 games this season and leads the Horizon League in assists with ten. Schmidt has also added six goals, sitting second in the Horizon in points with 22.

Kolevski garnered All-Academic honors for the first time. The sophomore holds a 3.66 GPA and is majoring in pre-physical therapy. The Skopje, North Macedonia, native has been named to the Dean's List on a pair of occasions. Kolevski has started all 16 games, leading the Horizon League in points (28) and goals (12). In addition, he has four assists on the year.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and be a starter or key reserve.
