Cleveland State Men's Soccer Matches Best Start in Horizon League Play

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State remained unbeaten in Horizon League play with a 3-1 win over IUPUI on Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Green and White match their best start in Horizon League play, 4-0-0, which was done in 2002.

THE GAME
The first half went goalless despite the Vikings holding a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. Overall, IUPUI held a 7-5 advantage in the shots category.

IUPUI netted the first goal just four minutes into the new half as Chris Workman scored on a free kick by Tylin Broaders. Cleveland State evened the game at one apiece in the 53rd minute when Ryan Kolonick finished off a cross from Jannis Schmidt.

Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week, Schmidt put the Vikings on top in the 62nd minute with an absolute laser from 30-yards out. Four minutes later, Bojan Kolevski extended the margin to 3-1, finishing off a through ball from Niklas Nannt.

For the second straight game, Schmidt finished with a goal and an assist. Cleveland State held a 20-14 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Kolevski boasted a game-best five shots with two on frame. Omeed Naeemy made five saves including a huge diving save in the 81st minute.
