Cleveland State Men's Soccer Collects First Win of Season Over St. Bonaventure

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's soccer team picked up their first victory of the season on Tuesday evening with 3-2 triumph over St. Bonaventure on Krenzler Field. The Vikings will now turn their attention to Horizon League play on Saturday at Green Bay.

THE GAME
St. Bonaventure opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Mathew Wrobel finished off a cross by Mattia Ferrertti. Julian Pellegrini evened the game in the 23rd minute after beating the keeper one-on-one off a through ball from Jannis Schmidt.

The Bonnies regained a 2-1 advantage in the 33rd minute as Joshua Pulla scored off a pass from Matthew Wrobel and Francesco Caorsi. The score line remained the same at the intermission, with the visitors holding a slight, 7-6 advantage in shots.

Cleveland State got off to a quick start in the new half as Bojan Kolevski touched home a through ball from Pellegrini and Ryan Kolonick, tying the game at 2-2 with just 1:40 coming off the clock.

The Vikings got the game-winner in the 82nd minute as Pablo Kawecki scored off a second assist from Schmidt, giving the Vikings their first win of the year, 3-2.

The Green and White held a 13-10 advantage in shots with Kawecki having a game-best four. Omeed Naeemy made two saves in goal for the Vikings.

UP NEXT
The Vikings open Horizon League play at Green Bay on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8:00 p.m. Green Bay leads the all-time series 8-4-1 with last seasons game going to double overtime before the Phoenix prevailed.
