Naeemy Named Nike #HLMSOC Defensive Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Cleveland State goalie Omeed Naeemy has been named this week's Nike #HLMSOC Defensive Player of the Week, the Horizon League announced Friday afternoon.

Naeemy joins Jannis Schmidt (Offensive Player of the Week) and Saahb Kular (Defensive Player of the Week) as the third Viking to be awarded the Horizon League's weekly honor

The sophomore goalkeeper recorded his league-leading third clean sheet of the year on Saturday, making six saves in Cleveland State's 1-0 road victory over Milwaukee, including three over the final 10 minutes of play. Naeemy has also posted shutouts against Robert Morris and Detroit Mercy this season and has kept the opposition off the board twice in road matches.

Overall, Naeemy's name can be found at or near the top of every major #HLMSOC category, including first in saves (25), save percentage (.806), minutes played (576:15) and shutouts (three) and third in saves per game (4.17). The sophomore also ranks fourth in goals-against average (0.94).

Cleveland State men's soccer will be back in action on Friday afternoon against Purdue Fort Wayne at 4 p.m.
