The Cleveland State University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Bowling Green Tuesday evening at Cochrane Stadium.

The Falcons, who own two wins over Big Ten foes this season and are receiving votes nationally, scored in the 18th minute and held on the rest of the way to claim the win.

Both teams created dangerous chances in the opening moments of the match. A BG cross from the right flank was just behind an attacker in the box in the first minute. Just a couple minutes later, senior Hayden Parente swung a left-footed cross into the box from the right wing, which classmate Vlad Jandric headed on target, but the keeper was well positioned to make the stop.

It was Bowling Green that would net the game's first, and only, goal in the 18th minute. After forcing a turnover deep in CSU territory on the right flank, the Falcons would send a low cross into the box that was pushed inside the far post.

Cleveland State was able to have sustained possession in the offensive end as the half wore down, netting three corners in the final six minutes. One corner occurred after Jandric ran off of senior Gabriel Pewu's flicked header forward, but the last Falcon defender was able to get back and guide the ball out of play.

One of the closest attempts at a tying goal came in the 53rd minute when CSU nearly produced a counter to perfection. Jandric's cross from the right was met by a powerful header in the box by senior Thomas Bielanski, but he was unable to place it far enough away from the keeper to find the net.

Freshman Omeed Naeemy made a big save in the 71st minute to keep the deficit at a single goal as he stonewalled a great chance from close range.

Cleveland State's best chance in the final minutes came with about 10 minutes to play as a ball was played high toward the box. Pewu and the Falcon keeper both went for it, but neither was able cleanly win the ball. The ball bounced around in the box, but the Vikings were unable to have it fall in their path.

BG had a slim, 3-2, edge in shots on goal.

Cleveland State will begin a stretch of three consecutive Horizon League matches this Saturday, Sept. 21, as it welcomes Northern Kentucky.
