Week #7

THE OPENING KICK:
• After having a single match last week, Cleveland State will have one non-conference contest and one Horizon League matchup this week.
• CSU begins the week by hosting Xavier Tuesday, Oct. 4. The Vikings are 9-0-0 all-time against the Musketeers.
• Cleveland State and Xavier have not met since 2004, and seven of the nine all-time meetings came before 1995.
• CSU then will resume League play Saturday, Oct. 8, at Northern Kentucky. It will be the second-ever meeting between the two sides.
• The Vikings took a 1-0 lead at home against the Norse last year but ended up dropping a 2-1 decision.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK:
• Cleveland State was forced to settle for a 1-1 tie with Green Bay in a Horizon League contest last Saturday.
Lawrence Karpeh scored in the 53rd minute, the Phoenix equalized in the 79th minute. CSU outshot Green Bay, 14-6, in the match.

FREE KICKS:
• Head coach Ali Kazemaini announced August 17 that he will step down at the end of this season, his 11th with the Vikings.
• Kazemaini owns 81 wins for CSU, the most in program history.
• CSU has been seeded fourth or better in the Horizon League Tournament in each of the past eight seasons, the longest active streak in the league. It most recently won the league tournament in 2012.
• Freshman Lawrence Karpeh scored his team-leading fourth goal against Green Bay. He is vying to become the first freshman to lead CSU in points since 2006. No Viking rookie has led the team outright in goals since 2005.
• With more than half of the regular season complete, a trio of Vikings has started every match. Midfielders Hesham Hammouda and Dan Koniarczyk and defender Antonio Burgoa have been among the starting XI each game.
• Cleveland State enters this week having allowed only 14 goals in its past 18 matches dating back to last season.
• Twelve of Cleveland State's 14 goals this year have come in the second half. In fact, six of CSU's goals have come in the 78th minute or later.
• A total of eight newcomers, five freshmen and three transfers, have competed for CSU this year. Six have started at least once, and three have played in each of the first 10 games.
• Entering the week, senior Aleksandar Drobac is tied for the Horizon League lead in save percentage (.800) and is second in goals against average (0.97). The veteran led the League in both categories a year ago.
• Junior Jake Lagania picked up his team-leading fourth assist in the draw with Green Bay. Lagania, who has an assist in three of the past four games, now has 12 career helpers, tops among active Vikings.
• CSU has more road wins (3) than home wins (1) thus far. This could be the third consecutive season in which the Vikings tally more wins on the road.

UP NEXT:
• CSU will begin a stretch of three home games in four matches with a single contest.
• The Vikings will host League foe UIC Saturday, Oct. 15.
