- The #4 seeded Cleveland State men's soccer team (8-12-0) will face #1 seeded UIC (15-3-0) in the semifinals of the 2013 Horizon League Championship at Flames Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Friday (Nov. 15). Kickoff will be at 5:00 p.m. EST.
RECAP OF HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND ONE:
- The Vikings defeated Wright State, 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the HL Championships on Tuesday evening.
- CSU had key goals from freshman midfielder Sergio Manesio and senior James Howe to seal the victory. Danilo Radjen and Mike Derezic set up Manesio and Aslinn Rodas set up a helper for Howe.
ALL-LEAGUE HONORS:
- Five Vikings earned All-League honors on Tuesday (Nov. 12). Zach Ellis-Hayden, Aslinn Rodas, and Admir Suljevic were named First-Team All-League.
- Sergio Manesio and Amari Williams were named to the All-Freshman team.
HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY:
- The Vikings have made it to the semifinals six times in the program's history with a record of 3-4.
- CSU has made it to the Conference Championship three times (2012, 2008, 2002), and captured the league title last season.
ALL-TIME VS. UIC:
- Cleveland State has played UIC 38 times, with Cleveland State leading the series 20-14-4. The Vikings fell to UIC earlier in the season, 1-0 (Oct. 5).
- The last time UIC and CSU met in the Horizon League tournament was during the 2009 season when the Vikings won a Quarterfinal contest on penalty kicks.
- The Flames are 2-1 against the Vikings in the postseason.
ADMIR HAT TRICK:
- Admir Suljevic posted a hat trick with three first half goals against Detroit (Oct. 23) earlier this season.
- The last time a hat trick was accomplished since Suljevic's was back on October 11, 2011 vs. Loyola at Krenzler Field.
- Aaron Adkins netted three goals in the contest.
GOALKEEPERS:
- CSU has used all three goalkeepers on the roster through 20 games.
- Freshman Nick Ciraldo has started ten games this season saving 24 shots. Ciraldo picked up his fourth win against Wright State on Wednesday (Oct. 30).
- Sophomore Austin Saini has tallied 18 saves on the year. Junior Joe Kalt has played in five matches saving 12 shots.
HORIZON LEAGUE STAT RANKINGS:
- The Vikings are ranked sixth in goals with 23.
- CSU is tied for fourth in assists with 21 and in points Cleveland State ranks fifth with 67.
- Suljevic ranks third in points per game with 1.36 and ranks third in goals with six.
- Goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo ranks sixth in shutouts (2).
