Cleveland State Lacrosse Falls to Ohio State, 13-6

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Vikings (1-1) fell to in-state opponent, Ohio State (2-0) 13-6 on Saturday afternoon.

Cleveland State raced out to a 3-0 advantage behind two goals from Wyatt Robertson and one from Alex Van Voorhis with 8:16 left in the first quarter. Ohio State answered back with five straight goals to lead 5-3 at the end of the quarter.

The Buckeyes tallied the first two goals of the quarter to lead 7-3 with 6:27 remaining in the first half. Carson Croy netted the lone goal for the Green and White off a pass from Van Voorhis to trail 7-4 with 2:32 to go.

A man-up goal for Ohio State with 38 ticks remaining gave the home team an 8-4 lead at the half.

Ohio State outscored the Vikings 3-1 in the third quarter to take an 11-5 advantage into the final quarter of the game. Van Voorhis was the goal scorer for Cleveland State, his second of the game.

The Buckeyes netted the first two goals of the final quarter to lead 13-5 with 2:32 to go in the contest. Robertson completed his first collegiate hat-trick with 50 seconds left as Cleveland State fell for the first-time this season, 13-6.

Justin Dalum made his first collegiate start in goal and finished with 12 saves. Griffin Valli paced the Vikings with five ground balls.

Robertson led the game with three goals and two caused turnovers.

Cleveland State heads to South Bend, Indiana, to face the reigning National Champions and the top team in the country, Notre Dame on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m.
