Cleveland State Lacrosse Falls on the Road to No. 2 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Cleveland State (0-2) fell on the road to No. 2 Notre Dame (2-0) 18-8 on Sunday afternoon.

Notre Dame opened the scoring just 1:02 into the contest as Bryce Walker scored off a pass from Jeffrey Ricciardelli. The Vikings evened the game with 9:31 remaining on a Ryan Haigh goal from Andrew Boniface.

The Fighting Irish tallied four unanswered goals to lead 5-1 after the first quarter.

Cleveland State struck first in the second quarter as Gavin Held found the back of the net off a feed from Gannon Matthews to trail 5-2.

Notre Dame closed out the half with three straight tallies to lead 8-2.

The Fighting Irish tallied four straight goals to start the third quarter, growing their advantage to 12-2. Ian McKissick stopped the run with a goal off Boniface's second assist of the game with 5:32 showing.

An unassisted Matthews goal was sandwiched between a pair of Notre Dame tallies as the Vikings trailed 14-4 at the end of the third quarter.

Notre Dame scored four straight to begin the final quarter as the margin grew to 18-4 with 11:29 showing.

Brendan Sigurdson started a streak of four straight Green and White goals, followed by two from Whit Stopak and the final by R. Haigh as Cleveland State fell on the road, 18-8.

R. Haigh and Stopak finished with two goals apiece. Boniface led the way with two assists and Matthews had three points on two assists and a goal.

Robbie Stewart went 8-of-14 in the faceoff circle. Cameron Logan made 16 saves in goal. Robbie Brazanskas picked up five ground balls.

Cleveland State will play its first game at home on Saturday, March 4 against Canisius at 1 p.m. The game is also Senior Day for the Vikings.
