ATLANTA, Ga. – The Cleveland State lacrosse team was selected to finish seventh in the ASUN Preseason Poll, as voted upon by league head coaches, the ASUN announced on Wednesday. The Vikings garnered 38 points.
Utah topped the ASUN Conference poll with three first-place votes for 92 points, while newcomer, Jacksonville was second with four first-place votes for 90 points. Reigning, ASUN Champions, Robert Morris was third with three first-place votes for 85 points.
The Vikings are coming off a 2022 campaign where they played their first-ever season in a conference. The Green and White went 3-7 on the year but were winless in conference play.
Gannon Matthews | Sophomore | Midfield | Eagle, Idaho | Preseason All-Conference Team
Matthews, a sophomore from Eagle, Idaho, was named to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team. Last season, Matthews became the first Viking in program history to earn a conference award when he was named the Freshman of the Year.
The First Team All-Conference midfielder played in all 13 games, scoring 19 goals and adding 15 assists for 34 points. He recorded a point in every game and had a season-best five points against VMI with two goals and three assists. In conference play, he totaled six goals and eight assists. In addition, he had nine ground balls, and one caused turnover.
2023 CLEVELAND STATE LACROSSE SCHEDULE
For the second straight season, the Vikings will begin their season at Ohio State on Saturday, February 11 at 12 p.m. The Green and White will play their first home game on Saturday, March 4 at 12 p.m. against Canisius.

Season tickets for all six home games for the 2023 slate are now on sale for $50 per ticket. Single-game tickets will begin in February with prices set at $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for children 12 and under.
