Cleveland State Lacrosse Falls in First-Ever ASUN Game to Bellarmine, 15-11

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Cleveland State fell to Bellarmine 15-11 in the program's first-ever ASUN game on Saturday afternoon. With the setback, the Green and White falls to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the ASUN.

Bellarmine opened the scoring at the 13:21 mark before Jason Sullivan scored the first-ever goal in conference play with 11:55 remaining in the opening quarter. Two minutes later, Gannon Matthews put Cleveland State in front, 2-1, with an unassisted goal.

The Vikings extended the margin to 4-1 with unassisted goals by Adam Clark and Amiri Austin with 7:37 to play in the first quarter. The Knights used back-to-back goals in an 11-second span to trim their deficit to 4-3 with 6:46 left in the first.

Clark found the back of the net for a second time on the afternoon, extending the margin to 5-3 with 5:05 remaining in the quarter. Bellarmine accounted for the final tally of the frame to trail by one as the game shifted to the second quarter.

The Knights knotted the game at five-apiece with the first tally of the new quarter with 13:33 showing. Ryan Haigh put the Green and White back on top by one, scoring off a pass from Sullivan with 10:57 left in the first half.

Bellarmine responded back with three straight goals to go in front, 8-6 with 3:40 to play in the second quarter. Cleveland State executed a perfect play out of a timeout with 15 seconds left in the half as R. Haigh scored off a pass from Matthews to trail 8-7 at halftime.

The Knights scored the first three goals of the third to lead 11-7 with 8:56 left in the quarter. Sullivan halted the run with a man-up goal off a pass from Clark as the Vikings trailed 11-8 with 6:38 remaining in the quarter.

Robbie Brazanskas found the back of the net at the 3:26 mark and Derek Radke scored with four ticks left as the Vikings closed to within one, 11-10 with one quarter left in regulation.

Bellarmine bagged the first goal of the final quarter with 11:52 showing on the scoreboard. Radke then scored his second straight off a feed from Matthews to trail 12-11 with 9:55 to go in the contest. However, the Knights scored the final three goals of the game to win the ASUN opener, 15-11.

Four Vikings finished with two goals in the conference opener; Radke, R. Haigh, Sullivan, and Clark. Clark led the Green and White with four points as he added two assists.

Evan Moskwa went 11-of-26 in the faceoff circle and scooped up a team-best five ground balls.

Cameron Logan made eight saves in the cage for the Green and White.
