Opening Faceoff
The Vikings will play their first home game of the 2022 season on Saturday, February 19 against Mercer with an 11:00 a.m. start.

About the Bears
Mercer enters the game with a 1-3 overall record, losing their last three games after opening the year with a 9-4 victory against Bellarmine. The Bears last played on Tuesday in a neutral site game against No. 15 Jacksonville, falling 21-12. Sean Goldsmith leads the offense with 11 goals and three assists for 14 points. Ashton Wood has scooped up 45 ground balls while Wesley Chairs and Garrett LeClaire have caused five turnovers apiece. Colin Kelley has made 45 saves in goal.

Last Game Out
Cleveland State dropped their season opener at Ohio State on Saturday, February 12 by a final score of 17-9. Gannon Matthews and Adam Clark netted two goals apiece to lead the attack. Robbie Brazanskas led the defense with a game-best three caused turnovers. Cameron Logan made ten saves in his Viking debut.

Matchup History
This will be the fourth meeting all-time between these two squads with Mercer holding a 3-1 advantage. Last season, the Bears edged the Vikings in Macon, 10-9.

Season Outlook
Cleveland State will be under the direction of head coach Andy German, who is in his third season with the Vikings. The Green and White are 5-12 under German and are coming off a 3-7 campaign.

ASUN Preseason Poll
The Vikings were picked to finish sixth in their inaugural season in the ASUN. Air Force and Utah are the co-favorites to win the regular-season championship with Robert Morris picked third. Cleveland State has faced four of the five teams in the ASUN under German; Bellarmine: (2-1), Air Force (1-0), Robert Morris (0-1), and Utah (0-1).

ASUN Fan Poll
The ASUN took to social media to poll the fans for the conference preseason superlative awards. The Vikings brought home two of the three awards.

Jason Sullivan was named the Fan-Voted Preseason Player of the Year. Sullivan started all 10 games last season for the Vikings, leading them in assists with 11. He also added six goals for 17 points on the year. The senior has played in 36 career games, scoring 19 goals to go along with 26 assists. In addition, he has picked up 18 ground balls.

Nick Polydoras was tabbed the Fan-Voted Preseason Midfielder of the Year. Polydoras played in all 10 games last season with four starts. He scored 10 goals and added an assist for 11 points, while also picking up 10 ground balls and causing five turnovers. The senior has appeared in 32 games with 15 starts, scoring 28 goals to go along with nine assists for 37 points.
