GAME RECAP

The Cleveland State University lacrosse team started out slowly and was unable to recover as the Vikings dropped a 16-9 contest at Michigan on a sunny and cold Saturday afternoon at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.

Junior Tristan Hanna led the way offensively for CSU as he posted a team-best four points, including three goals. It was his second straight hat trick to open the season and the 10th of his career.

Sophomores Ryan Haigh (2G) and Nick Polydoras (1G,1A) and junior Michael Wilson (2A) each added a pair of points for the Vikings. It was the second straight multi-goal effort for Haigh while Wilson has multiple points in the past seven games he's played and Polydoras has scored in the past five games he's played.

Michigan opened up a 4-1 lead after the opening quarter and then used five consecutive tallies in the second stanza to pad their lead (9-3) heading into halftime.

The Vikings played the Wolverines nearly even over the second half but could not outscore the hosts to cut into their lead.

Cleveland State held Michigan to a 19-for-26 mark on clears, the second straight game in which CSU forced at least a half dozen failed clears. Each team had 17 turnovers in the contest.

Sophomore Gareth Haigh made 10 saves in the cage for the Vikings. Senior Danny Tesler had a team-best seven ground balls and 10 faceoff wins.

Seniors Noah Gleeson and Nick Wendel and sophomore Gabe Reno each added a goal, with Gleeson doing so for the third straight game overall.

Freshman Connor Zwagerman had an assist in his collegiate debut while classmate Brendan Sigurdson also made his collegiate debut Saturday.

Cleveland State will continue its road trip next weekend as it heads to nationally ranked Notre Dame for the first meeting in school history.
