Ruditz Named to USILA Team of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Brandon Ruditz of the Cleveland State University lacrosse team was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Team of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

Ruditz becomes the second Viking to ever earn this honor, joining sophomore Stephen Russo, as the association recognizes 10 worthy individual performances each week from the past seven days.

Ruditz helped the young Viking program to one of its more noteworthy wins to date this past weekend.

Ruditz was credited with four ground balls and three caused turnovers in Cleveland State's 7-5 win at Marquette last weekend. The win was CSU's first ever against a Big East opponent and was the program's second straight road win. Ruditz's first ground ball started a successful CSU clear that led to the Viking goal that put Cleveland State into the lead for good. His first caused turnover led to a successful Viking clear where Marquette was subsequently whistled for a penalty.

The five goals that Ruditz and Cleveland State allowed were the lowest total ever yielded by the Vikings to a Division I opponent. That goal total is also a season low for the Golden Eagles, who have scored 12+ goals in four of their other five games. CSU held MU scoreless for a 36:08 stretch from early in the game until past the midway point of the third quarter. That was the longest in-game shutout streak ever produced by a Viking defense.

Ruditz was joined on defense by classmate Skylar Jimenez and Quinn Lemke in the game while Caleb Espinoza and Russo split duties in the cage.

Ruditz, who did not commit a turnover and was not called for a penalty in the game, is the only Viking to play in every game in program history—all 35 contests.

The other defenders honored in this announcement were Brett Kennedy of Syracuse and Cade Van Raaphorst of Duke.

Cleveland State will continue a six-game road trip Tuesday, March 12, at Lafayette.
