Men's Golfers Place Ninth in John Piper Intercollegiate

The Cleveland State Men's Golfers completed their fall portion of the season this past Monday and Tuesday by competing in the John Piper Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green State University. The team carded a 310-294-303---907 at Stone Ridge Golf Club, giving them a ninth-place finish overall.

Junior Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J. Brennan) led the CSU squad, finishing in a tie for 13th by shooting a 77-71-74---222. Sophomore Lyle Wilkens followed Komsa in the Viking standings, carding a 77-75-73---225 and placing in a tie for 22nd. Junior P.J. Myers (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) completed the tournament with a score of 77-76-77---230 and a 36th-place finish.

The linksters from host BGSU held onto first place by shooting a 287-295-300---882, finishing five strokes ahead of runner-up Wright State (295-289-303---887). The Raiders were guided to their second-place finish by John Schones, who won the event by carding a 72-68-73---213.

The CSU Men's Golfers will next see action when they begin competition in the spring of 2002.
