Men's Golfers Finish Fifth in Eastern Kentucky Classic

The Cleveland State men's golf team traveled to Richmond, Ky., this weekend to participate in the Eastern Kentucky University Colonel Classic. In the three rounds held at Arlington Golf Club, the Vikings carded a 291-298-307---896, placing them fifth and only 11 shots out of second-place. Their performance at the tournament was truly a team effort, with the top four Vikings finishing within ten shots of each other.

Junior P.J. Myers (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) played the best three rounds in his collegiate career, leading the Vikings with a score of 72-74-74---220 and earning him a share of 14th-place. Junior Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J. Brennan) finished three strokes behind Myers, carding a 73-73-77---223 and tying for 25th. Two strokes back of Komsa was freshman Lyle Wilkens, who shot a career best 72-77-76---225 for his share of 28th-place. Sophomore Mike Bognar (Seven Hills, Ohio/Normandy) also had a strong showing, shooting a 74-75-80---229 on the weekend.

Host Eastern Kentucky dominated the Classic from the beginning, carding a 291-279-287---857, outdistancing runners-up Morehead State and Ohio University by 28 strokes. Individual winner Erik Herberth of OU shot a 66-76-70---212 to finish two strokes ahead of an Eastern Kentucky three-way tie for second.

The Vikings' next stop is Forest Creason Golf Club, where they will play in the Bowling Green Invitational on October 22 and 23.
